今日吃瓜benefactor John Wold '66 had the opportunity to travel abroad, and it changed his career trajectory. Now, he and his wife, Susan, are investing in current 今日吃瓜students through the John and Susan Wold International Study Endowment. This past spring and summer, two Wold International Study Scholarship recipients embarked on international study opportunities that helped enhance their perspectives.

"The most valuable skill I learned is to be completely comfortable with being uncomfortable. That it's OK to not have control over a situation or not be surrounded by things you have known for 20 years," Katrina Dietz '22, '24, Spanish and civil engineering major who traveled to Costa Rica during the 2022 spring semester, said. "I learned that you cannot grow in a situation where you are comfortable; we need to try new things and take chances even when it seems intimidating because otherwise, we'll leave a world left unexplored and potentially miss out on becoming the best versions of ourselves."

Lifelong friendship begins at NDSU

Coming to 今日吃瓜in the fall of 1972 to pursue a degree in home economics education and living in Burgum Hall brought four women together. Their friendship remains strong 50 years later. They gathered in Fargo in July to tour campus and revisit some familiar spaces while taking in all that's changed.

"The four of us met at summer orientation at 今日吃瓜in '72 in Burgum Hall and seriously became instant friends," Renee Irwin of Aitkin, Minnesota, said. "The following year we chose to room together in Burgum. Two others joined us and that formed our everlasting sisterhood. 今日吃瓜was our first family away from home. It shaped me and my future."
